JC the Flaming Con ArtistI dont like using my journal to bitch but
.
Most people that frequent my page know that in addition to doing my own work I commission work as well.
I commission work I either cant do or dont have time to do myself.
This has been mostly a pleasant experience.
Most people I've run into have been honorable and or professional,
but every now and then you run into a real jerk.....which brings me to JC aka

I contacted this character back in May after noting some very cool animated work on his page.
After a few notes back and forth we settled on a price for a short Vindicators animated intro.
I gave him a $110 down payment on June 8th for this project to be completed by the end of the month.
That was 6 months ago.
I waited patiently for the first 4 weeks for the promised updates and samples and got nothing.
When I finally noted him requesting an update I got ....nothing. No answer, no excuses, nothing.
I sent repeated requests for updates via notes and emails....nothing.
After 6 week of nothing I opened a dispute with Paypal.
(Heres a tip: If you ever open a dispute with Paypal and they send you one of those notes about working things out before escalating your claim,
ignore it. Escalate your claim immediately. Its a ploy to let your arbitration time run out.)
Only after I opened the dispute did this weasel pipe up with a laundry list of the dog ate my homework' excuses.
He said he still wanted to do the commission and I was going to get something special.
In the spirit of working things out I waited
..nothing.
Another 6 weeks go buy. This guy takes my name off his commission list and starts posting personal stuff hes been busy working on. I confronted him on his front page.
Oh, I already gave you back your money he says.
Now I realize Im being jerked for sure.
I provide the evidence I had not been paid.
His answer, my bad, guess where back on.
Needless to say that was the last I heard from this thief.
He ignores all notes and emails, and refuses to return the money.
This kind of thing is bad for all of us, those who commission work and those who accept commissions. It creates an environment of distrust and provides a haven for predatory thieves.
DA is currently mulling over whether their going to take action or not which I find odd when they ban people for stealing a pose.
I'm going to try not to let this sour me to commissions and DA in general, but it definitely lowers my trust factor considerably.
Meanwhile if you feel compelled to drop by old

s page and let him know what you think about thievery, please do.
Inspired artistIm going to make this short and sweet.
Its never bothered me much when artist get inspired by my ideas.
Some might call it copying, but I actually find it flattering and most of the time harmless.
But just because I dont say anything doesnt mean it goes unnoticed.
If your going to borrow an idea, or
several ideas, at least give credit where credit is due.
