Well that was a fine and very interesting article. Wow what a coincidence the Kevin Grevious, another black man who wanted to create more heroes of color, would also create a team called The Vindicators. Sheesh, it hppens sometimes. My own Kaiju Revamp: Godzilla 1954 seems to have predicted the newest Godzilla movie coming out from Japan. The concepts are damn near identical. So it happens. I can see how that event in your life also inspired your interest in martial arts and self defense. Well Im certainly rooting for The Vindicators (yours) and look forward to seeing more in the future. You are among my very favorite comic creators here on DA.

Thanks, Bracy :)
Well, I later found out that it was more than a coincidence.
I had a old 'friend' that was supposed to be working on the Vindicators with me back it day,
but he was never serious about it and dropped out without contributing any work to the project.
He kept the material though and years later when Grevious was scooping up black superhero ideas hoping to score a movie he met my former 'friend' through a third party.
This all came out at NYCC 2013 when we all kind of accidentally collided. It was awkward, but illuminating and I haven't head much from Mr. Grevious since then.

Damn thats really disappointing. Im a fan of his original work like the Underworld movies, its rather sad to hear that he would be like this. And as for your "friend" that just plain sucks. Screw that guy.

To be fair, i don't know that Grevious knew the project wasn't his to share.
What sucks is to think he had at least a half dozen creators on the line
willing to give him credit for their work in exchange for...?
Some of them from right here on DA.

I could never do that. Not with something I created. Im sure he wouldnt want anyone else claiming Underworld as theirs.

I'm sure you right, he'd never let anyone else claim Underworld...

I, Frankenstein, yes, but never Underworld :XD:

Hey Rod,
Man beautiful interview. Congratulations for being recognized because there is not alot of Black comic book Artists out there telling their stories. Since I read your article, I did a Senior Project paper in high school called "Black Comic Books: The Black Hero and his Journey". It's 54 pages and I'm working on getting it published. I was wondering if their is a way I can interview you so I can build a stronger paper before getting it published? It's good that you're pursuing your dreams and it would be an honor if I can interview you when I'm done with this semester in college =). If you're interested in reading my Senior project paper, jut send me a note with yuor name and e-mail address and I'll let you read it because feedbacks are always welcome =). Once again congratulations.
Keith

now that was a brilliant interview i ever read,no kidding, it had passion, it had drama and most of all it had a heart ....
and i like how you explain your childhood very well, exspeacialy about the part when your friend was knife pointed and that can really touch on some people who may have that sort of situation with the people in the streets and so forth...

well done,i hope your project is going well, and that bit where you said ...

"who ever is pursueing this art form, don't do it for the money ,do it becuase you love to storytell..."

and that is so true

best of luck ...ZTENZILA

Thanks, Zten! You know, I hesitated to reveal that part about my childhood incident because it's so personal, but it's also the core of who I am and why I do what I do. And that makes it worth sharing.

O.O; woah I had NO idea you looked like a Vindicator yourself.

Just finished reading it, mate, and I gotta say that your personal philosophy (as is evident through this interview) really jives with my own. Especially the need for good rolemodels as a child and that comics arent about money, they're about telling stories that burn in your belly and need to be told or you don't feel like you're accomplishing anything in yur life.

Is OV gonna be widely available through Previews or is it going to be webbased only?

Glad your feeling what I'm trying to say, NC.
Well, it's web-base for now, but that's what this press booth at NYCC is all about. The first day is industry only until afternoon. That's when deals are made. Things may change overnight, literally!
